The Caps new lineup and show with The Daffodils

Not one, but two gift shop bands are playing tonight (Wednesday, May 13th, 2009) at Mississippi Pizza here in beautiful Portland, OR. The Caps have recently gone through some changes (we like to call it puberty) with the addition of a new bassist and drummer, as well as a new second guitarist. Check out their Myspace page for details. Also, it is always a treat to see The Daffodils play and I believe they will have some CDs for sale. You really gotta go pick one up.

Thanks for the kind words Silent Ballet.

I got caught dancing / twittering at SXSW.

As some of you know, I (James) recently spent 10 action packed/music-nerdtastic days in Austin TX at this year’s South By Southwest Interactive/Film/Music conference/festival/non-stop party.  I saw a ton of great bands and got to hang out with a ton of cool people, friends old and new.   Continue Reading »

J Augustus and SXSW

J Augustus, Ready to record.

J Augustus, Ready to record.

In a previous entry we mentioned that Mild Stallions were recording an album during the month of February.  This information has changed a little, but not completely.  Mild Stallions Frontman James Hall has instead decided to just release a new album of his own under the moniker “J Augustus”.  This album should be available for a FREE DOWNLOAD sometime in April when the mixing of the album (titled “Tracks”) will be complete.  For a preview of what he is up to check out his Myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/jaugustus).

In other news, J Augustus will be attending (but not performing at) South by Southwest this year in Austin TX.  He will be giving away Daffodils and Mild Stallions CDs to anyone interested.  He will also be having a great time.

Mild Stallions are making a new album in the month of February.

Mild Stallions have decided to take the RPM Challenge.  “What is the RPM Challenge?” you might ask.  Well, it’s a challenge that several musicians and bands are taking around the world to record an album of all original material during the month of February.  The album has to be at least 10 songs or 34 minutes long.  We are pretty excited, it’s going to be good times.

The Caps on Local Cut

The Caps live at Rotture

The Caps live at Rotture

The Caps were recently featured on Willamette Week’s music blog “Local Cut” for their song “Make a Wish” from the Plastic Rings EP (which can be purchased here).  Thank you very much Willamette Week of Portland, OR.  You guys are real nice and we love you.  Also in Caps news, some new recordings have been in the works.  More details to come.

Gesso’s Stuff

Daffodils and Caps member Jessica Bonin is currently working on a few song recordings under the monicker Gesso.  This is good news becasue she writes some pretty great pop songs (a la Magnetic Fields) and it is all available to listen to on her Myspace Page.  The songs were (and are) recorded at Lelkoland in the typical Lelkoland style (One Song, One Night, One Great time).  I incourage you to check them out.

In other news, The Daffodils are going to take it up a notch this year.  Keep an eye out.

Now you can buy Mild Stallions “Pocket E.P.”

Yes you can.

MILD STALLIONS: Pocket - EP

Just in, Mild Stallions “Pocket E.P.”

We just recieved the latest Gift Shop Release “Mild Stallions - Pocket E.P.”.  It will be available very soon for purchase so keep checking back.  In the meantime, get your fill of Mild Stallions on their Myspace Page. The Packaging came out great and we couldn’t be happier.  The Mild Stallions also recently played a show with Dameon Lee (of Scared of Chaka and Lowlights fame) at East End in Portland, OR.  This marked the first Mild Stallions show with a full band featuring; Chris Worth and Brian Lelko switching out Key and Bass duities and Wiley Hickson on drums and of couse James and Amy doing their usual parts.  The show went well and was a good time (had by all, hopefully).

The Daffodils are playing shows

The Daffodils (who don’t play out very often) are starting to ramp things up and have two shows coming up here in there near future.  The First show is at Rotture in Portland Oregon with Lake (their k records signing party) and Ohioan on Wednesday, September 3rd.  The next Daffodils show is on the 8th of September and will be held in Seattle WA at Rendezvous with Dameon Lee.  Gift Shop will be re-releasing “Renee and Eugene” by The Daffodils as well as releasing thier upcoming records “Gulls and Buoys”.  “Renee and Eugene” will be available for purchase at the live shows.  Hope to see you there.
